Sexualized violence

Sexualised violence is a form of domestic abuse. Sexualised violence also exists within a partnership and the family. It is prohibited. It can be reported to the police. A woman or girl affected can report the assault to a female police officer. A male victim can report the assault to a male police officer. In most cases of sexual abuse, the police must initiate criminal proceedings. Even if you do not wish to report the incident to the police, you should undergo a medical examination as soon as possible after the sexual assault.

The Glarus Cantonal Hospital provides confidential treatment. After sexual violence evidence can be specially secured. Doctors are bound to confidentiality and do not inform anyone without the consent of the person concerned. Doctors can liaise with victim support services.

In-between the assault and medical help

  • No showering and no washing – this includes hands.
  • If possible don’t use the toilet.
  • Don’t wash clothes, bring them along to the examination.

Filing a complaint with the police

The police are experienced in dealing with reports of sexualized abuse. Interviews are conducted by a person of the same sex. The report can be filed at the police station. You can bring a trusted person or a specialist from the victim support centre with you.
